GEORGIA BY THE NUMBERS

We surveyed Georgians statewide, capturing their consumption habits and access to news coverage, social media, and other critical information sources. Here's what we found:

Just under 1 in 3 Georgia residents see the cost of living as the biggest challenge, closely followed by rising housing costs.

Five key demographics, including Black residents in metro Atlanta, Black residents in South Georgia, AAPI residents, Young Adults (ages 18-24), and Hispanic residents, cite Google Search as their top news source.

8 in 10 older folks report watching broadcast or cable TV once daily, compared to only 4 in 10 under 50.

Almost 1 in 2 Georgia residents experience broadband accessibility issues such as outages, affordability, or both.

Social media has become a key news source for Georgians across all age groups. Almost 70% use Facebook and YouTube at least once a week, making them the two most widely used social media platforms in the state.
25%
A fourth of Georgians turn to social media for important community updates, including Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms. That’s more than local TV (21%), Newspapers (7%), or local radio stations (6%).

Survey Data

The survey reached 1,351 adults, age 18 or older, who indicated they were registered to vote in Georgia. The survey was conducted in 2024 via live phones with trained operators and online via a link from a SMS. The survey was translated into Spanish and respondents in the Latina/Latino/Hispanic sample had an opportunity to take the survey in their language of choice.

The sample was randomly selected from TargetSmart's enhanced voter file. Fifty-eight percent of respondents were reached on telephones. Eighty-five percent of the respondents who took the survey via phone were reached on a wireless phone. Forty-two percent were reached via SMS and took the survey online. Quotas were assigned to reflect the demographic distribution of all registered voters in Georgia.
We reached a statewide representative sample of 500 interviews. We reached a sample of Black voters in the Atlanta media market of 246 interviews. We reached a sample of Black voters across southern Georgia media markets of 441 interviews. We reached a sample of AAPI voters of 113 interviews. We reached a sample of voters ages 18 to 24 of 132 interviews. We reached a sample of Latina/Latino/Hispanic voters of 131 interviews.

The statewide margin of error is +/- 4.4%, Black Metro Atlanta margin of error is +/- 6.2%, Black South Georgia margin of error is +/- 4.7%, AAPI margin of error is +/- 9.2%, Youth margin of error is +/-8.6% and Latina/Latino/Hispanic margin of error is +/- 8.6%. The margin of error for subgroups is larger and varies. Percentage totals may not add up precisely due to rounding.
